Born in China and raised in Taiwan, Connie King graduated from National Taiwan Normal University with a major in Fine Arts. She immigrated to Canada in 1973.
Connie works with a variety of media, including canvas, paper, wood panels, watercolour, and acrylic. She especially enjoys creating large-scale works with vibrant colours, using bold brushstrokes and concrete imagery to express abstract ideas and values.
Her 17 years of qigong practice have taught her the wisdom of working from within. This practice allows her to respond with sensitivity to the people, places, and situations she encounters, transforming these experiences into her art. It has also taught her to focus on positive energy and to value the process and discipline of art-making, rather than being overly concerned with the final product or its marketability.
Connie is deeply inspired by her experiences and the new insights she gains while travelling. She believes it is important to look beyond one’s own limited perspective and to remain open to other cultures and environments. As she continues to discover and convey the overwhelming power of the natural world, her images become ever larger, brighter, and more expressive.
